Background of the Study

Leadership plays a critical role in influencing employee performance within an organization. Different leadership styles, such as transformational, transactional, and autocratic, have been shown to impact employee attitudes, motivation, and overall productivity (Bass & Avolio, 2024). In the banking sector, leadership is particularly important because it shapes organizational culture, affects decision-making, and drives innovation, all of which can influence employee performance.

Wema Bank, one of Nigeria's leading banks, operates in Jigawa State, where it is focused on expanding its customer base and improving its services. The leadership style within Wema Bank has a direct effect on employee performance, and this study aims to examine how different leadership styles adopted by managers in the bank impact employees' motivation, commitment, and job performance (Ogunleye & Iyiola, 2024).
